Suns of Arqa are perhaps one of the greatest behind-the-scenes pioneers of world fusion, downtempo, ambient and electro-dub. Since the late 70’s they’ve been a prolific and seminal influence on the world beat sound and have paved the way for the success of artists like Transglobal Underground, Jah Wobble, Talvin Singh, Thievery Corporation, Cheb i Sabbah, Afro-Celt Sound System and countless others.
Finding inspiration around the globe, Suns of Arqa set out to interpret indigenous, tribal and classical folk traditions within a contemporary electronic music context. By combining these elements with dub reggae grooves and cutting-edge digital technology, they have forged an impressive legacy and have earned worldwide recognition. The result is a deeply spiritual vibration that merges cultures, faiths and musical genres.
Over the years, Suns of Arqa have materialized as a musical collective, combining the ancient Hindustani raga systems with Piobaireachd (Scottish Highland) and Nyabinghi (Rastafarian) roots drumming. they appear intermittently at the seasonal festivals and sacred ritual spaces, where they are a vehicle for the positive raising of vibration, connecting with both the sensory and infinite worlds, for the ongoing evolution of all sentient beings.
‘Many bands claim to deal in global fusion, but few have as firm a claim on the genre as the Suns of Arqa’
- Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
"It is the ultimate sound to take us through the changes to come. Where sound is not just a backdrop to life but ultimately it is life itself." Wadada.
